É muito importante para o Haiti e para os haitianos que o país volte a suas atividades normais, não obstante o dramático impacto da catástrofe do dia 12 de janeiro corrente. Os bancos já voltaram a funcionar, as remessas do exterior já chegam ao país desde a semana passada, os supermercados já reabriram, o comércio ambulante nas ruas reiniciou suas atividades apenas dois dias após o terremoto e o comércio em geral repara os danos sofridos e reabre suas portas. As comunicações por celular estão praticamente restauradas e o fornecimento de água e combustível opera normalmente.
A Embaixada do Brasil e o Centro Cultural Brasil-Haiti Celso Ortega Terra participam desse esforço e buscam dar o exemplo: ontem, 25 de janeiro, foram retomadas as aulas de português no CCBH, ainda que com número reduzido de alunos.
(free translation) It is very important for Haiti, and for the Haitians, that the country returns to its normal activities, despite the dramatic impact of the earthquake. The banks have already reopen, and so did the supermarkets; the informal market was again on the streets two days after the quake, and other businesses were starting to have their damages repaired and some already reopened their doors. Communications via cell phone are basically restored, and the supply of fuel and water was normalized.
The Brazilian Embassy and the Cultural Center Brazil-Haiti Celso Ortega Terra are an integral part of this effort, and try to proceed by giving an example: Monday, January 25th, we restarted offering Portuguese lessons at the CCBH, even though the number of persons attending them has dropped (as a consequence of the earthquake).
